Sinatra in the Park (and More) with the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra

07/12/21

The Jazz in the Park 2021 Concert series, featuring the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra, will perform a shout out to summer on Sunday, July 18, at 7 p.m. in Riverside Park.

“Our guest artist for concert #2 is a talented vocal veteran with numerous accolades for his ability to swing the Sinatra songbook,” says bandleader Greg Balfany. “Tim Henke will present six of Sinatra’s most beloved recordings with the Count Basie Band. Included in his repertoire are “The Summer Wind,” "Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” and “My Way.”

The band will feature LJO trumpeter Jon Ailibouni on “Strike Out the Band” from the Carl Saunders jazz orchestra library. “Bass On Top Where Paul Likes It,” featuring the band’s stellar bassist Karyn Quinn, is a tribute to legendary artist Paul Chambers. Lead trumpeter Brent Turney will perform trumpet virtuoso Randy Brooks’s version of the beautiful ballad, “Tenderly.”

The concert is free for all and suitable for the whole family. The 2021 Jazz in the Park series continues with upcoming guest artists Brent Turney and Cathy Reitz on July 25, and Janet Planet  on August 1.
