Karyn Quinn – bass
Karyn Quinn is in demand as a bassist throughout the Midwest, and has performed in concerts with Kurt Elling, Wycliffe Gordon, Byron Stripling, Delfeayo Marsalis, Evan Christopher and Eric Alexander, among many others. She lives in La Crosse and plays regularly with the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra, Safe Passage Jazz Quartet, Optimism Jazz Sextet and the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. She’s also busy freelancing in the recording studio, musical theater pit orchestras and with various bands. Hear her on the the Jazz MN Orchestra’s 2018 CD The Commission Project, and on Great Days, a 2012 trio album with Wayne Hawkins and Todd Strait. Karyn has a MM in Bass Performance and Jazz Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado and a BS in Music Education. She was on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse from 1989 to 2017. She is the author of two method books for beginning electric bass students, Bass Sessions, Vol. I and Vol. II.
ABOUT THE BAND
The La Crosse Jazz Orchestra is Western Wisconsin's premier big band. Directed by Greg Balfany, the group is best known through its Jazz in the Park concert series. The LJO mission: to promote, preserve and forward the creation of jazz music through free live performances available to all in our region. LJO operates under fiscal sponsorship from La Crosse Community Foundation.
