Tom Wopat Headlines Final Jazz in the Park Concert for 2025

The 2025 LJO summer season concludes with a special Aug. 3 Jazz in the Park concert featuring the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra and internationally acclaimed actor, singer, and storyteller Tom Wopat.

 

Returning for his second appearance with the LJO, Tom is best known for his iconic role as Luke Duke, as well as his diverse work in film, television, and Broadway. His performance will showcase an eclectic mix of music and stories, highlighting songs from Blood Sweat and Tears, Jimmy Webb, Ray Charles, The Lovin’ Spoonful, and Tower of Power.


The LJO will also perform contemporary takes on jazz classics, including Herbie Hancock’s “Watermelon Man,” Rob Parton’s Chicago Band’s rendition of “Soon,” and a special feature of the LJO trombone section on Charlie Parker’s “Blues For Alice.”

 

The concert is free and starts at 7 p.m. in Riverside Park, 100 State St., La Crosse. Rain site is the Cappella Performing Arts Center, 721 King St., La Crosse.

 

ABOUT THE BAND

The La Crosse Jazz Orchestra is the premier big band of western Wisconsin. Under the direction of Greg Balfany, the ensemble is best known for its long-running Jazz in the Park concert series. The LJO is committed to preserving and promoting the art of jazz through high-quality, free public performances. The group operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the La Crosse Community Nonprofits Association, an affiliate program of the La Crosse Area Community Foundation.
