LJO Celebrates Quincy Jones

07/17/25

"Our Man Quincy" is the theme of the Sunday, July 20 Jazz in the Park concert at La Crosse's Riverside Park.

AN ICONIC MUSICAL INFLUENCE

Quincy Jones is a name synonymous with excellence and innovation in the music industry, says Greg Balfany, director of the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra. "With a career spanning over six decades, he has left an indelible mark across various genres, including jazz, rock, rhythm and blues, pop and hip-hop. Jones's influence is both profound and far-reaching, as he has been instrumental in shaping the sound of modern music. His ability to push boundaries and set new standards for artistic excellence is unparalleled. Quincy’s legacy is reflected not only in the numerous awards and accolades he received but also in the lasting impact he has had on the music industry as a whole."

A NIGHT OF MUSICAL MASTERY

The July 20 LJO concert will showcase Quincy’s remarkable range of writing, featuring everything from Latin grooves and funky rhythms to classic swing and tender ballads, Balfany says. Among the selections are some of his most beloved pieces, including “Soul Bossa Nova,” “Theme From Ironside” and “Comin’ Home Baby."

The evening will also feature the talents of tenor saxophonist Jeff Erickson, who will perform the beautiful ballad “Grace.” Featured vocalist is Tim Henke, who will bring to life selections from the Frank Sinatra collection, including “Luck Be A Lady Tonight,” “Street of Dreams” and “Pennies From Heaven.”

The concert is free and starts at 7 p.m. in Riverside Park, 100 State St., La Crosse. Rain site is the Cappella Performing Arts Center, 721 King St., La Crosse.
