Two sensational guest performers will be part of "A Trumpet Storm," the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra's next Jazz in the Park concert. The show starts at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 25 at Riverside Park.

One of the show's guest artists is Brent Turney, a trumpet virtuoso with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra trumpet who is described by LJO director Greg Balfany as perhaps the premiere trumpet lead artist in the entire Midwest.

Turney will perform trumpet legend Maynard Ferguson’s “Maria” from West Side Story. Clifford Brown’s famous composition “Joy Spring” will be another highlight, Balfany says. Two additional selections pay tribute to Gordon Goodwin’s great West Coast band and bebop trumpet great Kenny Dorham.

The concert's second guest artist is the Eau Claire singer/actress Cathy Reitz, who will offer performances of Ella Fitzgerald’s “I Won’t Dance” and Julie London’s “Black Coffee.” Additional selections include the music of Diane Schurr and Natalie Cole.

The concert is free for all and suitable for the whole family. The 2021 Jazz in the Park series concludes on Sunday, August 1 with Wisconsin’s best known jazz singer, Janet Planet, as featured artist.

The rain site for all LJO concerts is the Cavalier Theater, 118 5th Ave N., in downtown La Crosse.
